Curcuma is a genus of Zingiberaceae (ginger)
with more than 65 species of Curcuma distributed over Asia,
Africa and Australia and about 30 species were found only
in Thailand.
Curcuma trives in a well-watered soil, with plentiful rain,
and in light shade. In open areas and on light soils (such
as sandy clay soils), bigger and better rhizomes are produced.
The genus is easily recognized by its inflorescence, which
is a spike bearing prominent spiral bracts which laterally
ture to form pouches. Each pouch subtends a cincinnus of flowers,
the flowers each which a single versative anthur. The terminal
bracts from a sterice cluster called a coma, often brightly
