Curcuma alismatifolia is member of the family Zingiberaceae
(ginger). It is a native of Thailand,
in which plants in the wild are very variable
clones. However, one particular clone which is called "Tulip
Ginger" or "Chiangmai Pink" or "Standard Pink" or "Summer Tulip"
is what most people known. This extra large pink variety is
a cut above the rest and to far very few varieties seem to compare.
It is grown by millions in Thailand and is also a hot item in
Holland and Israel where it is grown for cut flowers and pot
plants. This plant is a long lasting, repeat blooming, full-sun
loving, easy to grow and very productive. Curcuma species which
bloom is held above the foliage does look like a tulip. Photoes
of large area plantings in Thailand look exactly like fields
of pink tulip in Holland.
